Getting Here

1989 - 2007

My relationship with wood and crafts begins with my infancy. I was surrounded by piles of sawdust, a variety of hand and powered tools, and the accompanying noise—all products of the planning and reconstruction of my family home. Maturing in this environment instilled in me a deep and passionate appreciation for the qualities and appropriateness of materials.

Long before I was born, my father was a professor at The Philadelphia College of Art. By the time I was born, he was a highly sought after hardwood floor designer and installer in the Philadelphia area and beyond. During those formative childhood years, I witnessed museum-bound hardwood inlays, wrought iron smithing, and jewelry work constantly churning from his hands. Experiencing this level of craftsmanship around me has profoundly impacted my goals and expectations.

My parents continuously encouraged my creative outlets from when I was hammering my first nails into boards at 18 months to high school when I was the vice-president for the Graphic Design Club. As a result, I possess a passion and vision to use my hands to create.

Barn Framing

2007 - 2011

I began attending Carnegie Mellon University for design in 2007. At the end of my second year I was awarded the Design Merit Award for my dedication, enthusiasm, and involvement within the design community. I graduated in May 2011 with a BFA in Industrial Design and College Honors.

2011 - Present

Upon graduating, I took time to pursue another passion - outdoor education. At Keewaydin Environmental Education Camp (KEEC), I continued to improve my group leadership and communication skills. My experiences as an instructor have made me a better teammate and project lead.

My strength as a designer has developed from a natural curiosity of how people and machines operate. While I continue to practice my technical know-how, I am still sensitive to human needs and desires.

I am confident that I can contribute my curiosity, empathy, and out-of-the-box thinking in order to tackle any challenge.
